zound - I just copied the same passage and was about to paste when I saw you had beat me to it. That passage made my stomach turn. What a great way to get converts when a wife holds a husband to ransom like that. And as you say the WBTS never breaks up families. Actually I found the whole blog nauseating. Having not been directly exposed to the thinking in this way I was horrified to see how they prey on the uneducated.

For lurkers and newbies who think Jehovah`s Witnesses are better people than most
by smiddy inwhy dont you look up on the internet crimes comitted by jehovah`s witnesses , i think you will be very surprised.the majority of cases are comitted by dedicated baptised witnesses , not newly interested ones that you can excuse away.and the crimes range from anything minor to outright murder .. and remember ,jehovahs witnesses are only a minority religion and yet crimes comitted by them far outstrip the national average.. i`m sorry i cant put up the links .i`d appreciate it if someone can .thanks heaps.. smiddy.

Thanks for your comments guys - I get the cognitive dissonance thing as I regularly throw her into a cognitive dissonance headspin when I point out all the very obvious problems with the WBTS claim to be Jehovah's organization and I understand the BS put out by that organization about being the sole source of truth and JWs being the most honest (one of the issues I have with my wife is her dishonesty by ommission) and happiest people on the planet (I can see my wife is far from happy) as opposed to all us evil wordly people. Being a very logical, rational critical thinkng sort of person, trying to reason with my wife about thsi stuff does my head in. But I know she is not a bad person just a victim.

As someone who is married to an active Witness I do not accept the 'Witnesses are terrible people' line of some who have posted. My life is made more complicated and frustrating because my wife is a victim of the WBTS mind control but I wouldn't characterize it as all bad. She is very childish and naive in many respects, which puts a burden on me to look after her to some extent, but she is also quite forgiving and gives me latitude to do things I enjoy. Because of the belief that Jehovah is watching all the time she does try to do the right thing as defined by the WBTS, which is not always a bad thing.
However, she is controlled by fear and can behave badly when her phobia's are inflamed and can lack empathy in some bizarre ways because that is what she is taught to do. But in some rare circumstances she will go against what she is compelled to do. I have no doubt she would never oppose my son getting a blood transfusion if he needed one but would be quite happy that I would be the one making the call. I want to get her to see TTATT so she can free her mind and start to live life and also so I don't lose her every Sunday for the whole day but if I am not successful in my efforts to gether to see TTATT then I think we can find a way to make our relationship work.
I understand why shunning and other treatment makes those of you who have left harbourt resentment against your former brothers and sisters but I don't know you can generalize as broadly as you do.

by d inwhat do you think would be the result if we go the u.s goes thorough striking syria?
i fear that it will drag the u.s into a vietnam like situation and this will hurt our economy..

It won't be Vietnam because they will never commit ground troops) but it won't be without cost. Surgical strikes are hard to achieve in practice os collteral damage of women and children will undermine the message and what is the exit strategy - once you start you need to work out how you stop. Syria may heed the warning and not use Chemical Weapons in which case all fine or they coulddecide they are not going to be intimidated and keep using them and then what does the US (and UK if they join them) do? Escalate? How? The Reels are a bunch of Islamic fundamentalists - does the US really want to inadvertently assist them in their attempts to take power? Egypt is a good example of what happens when you topple an established regime in the Arab world.

if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

Also Slimboyfat I asuspect that once the election is lost and assuming KRudd wins his seat I think he will be dethroned fairly quickly perhaps by Shorten and the ALP will be in for a ong and ugly rebuilding period. KRudd will probably leave politics and try and get some international organisation post.

Slimboyfat - I assume your question is directed at the election, it is on Saturday so no winner yet but it will almost certainly be Abbott however unpalatable that may be. If you were referring to the spat between Jeffro and mp - there can be no winner in such an argument - a bit like an argument between a Witness and their Unbelieving Mate. Perhaps once the election is over they may stop arguing and kiss and make up. Cheers

Did you hear about the ex-pat aussie who turned up at Australia House trying to vote without his passport? Security didn't believe he was an Aussie on account of his accent having been corrupted after too long in the company of Poms. So he tells the Security guy 'I can prove I am an Aussie cos I ahve Bob Hawke's face tatooed on the left buttock and Paul Keating's tattoed on the right.' The security guy replies 'This I have to see' so the Aussie drops his strides and exhibits his derriere. 'Wow' says the Security guy 'I see Hawke and Keating but you didn't warn me you had stuck KRudd in between.'
